Peace Of Mind Is A Luxury These Days. Be Careful Who You Listen To. Whom You Spend Your Energy Upon & Whom You Learn From. The answer to How To Clear Your Head & Focus? Lies not in extraordinary things & bulletproof motivation but simple mindset shift & better thinking.
Does your mind start to make a lot of noise when you sit down to work or when attempting something new? Are you always thinking about the past & future problems in life? Do you always get distracted or feel overwhelmed when faced with a challenging situation? Do you always feel the fear of failure before even attempting a task?
What overthinking or constant negative thoughts does to you is that it diminishes the ability to think better & act better. That is why you always end up making the wrong decisions for yourself & the people around you.
But Why Does This Happen? There are several reasons for your mind to not focus.
- Fear Of Failure
- Lack Of Action
- You Are Looking For Quick Results
- Over Analytical Mindset
- Past Mistakes & Experiences
- Internal Environment (Self- Belief Issues)
- Peer Pressure
- External Environment (Friends & Family)
You need to first identify the source of this bad habit & accordingly do the diagnosis. Whatever may be the root cause of this problem, a simple mindset shift will bring you back in the present & to your surprise, you can enjoy your life as you wish to.

What you want to do is surround yourself in an environment that automatically places you in a motivated zone, you need not try harder to control your thought patterns. Your environment will do the work for you & until you realize, you will become that environment. It will become your default.
A major part of your personality is often shaped by the environment you are surrounded in. If you grew up listening to a certain genre of music it will be not pleasant to listen to something else. If you grew up liking & consuming only a particular flavor of chocolate or ice cream it becomes difficult for you to digest a different flavor. Our mind associates our surroundings with different feelings.
The same is with our mindset & our thinking habits. If you surround yourself in an environment that is not clean & tidy, eventually you become that person. If you surround yourself with people who criticize more than do the work, one day you will become that person & the most difficult part is to realize this transition.
If keeping yourself focused is the goal, eliminate any sources of distraction while working or studying. For example, keep all your devices out of your sight. When you don’t see it your mind will stop associating those devices with instant pleasure & the only option left will be to work.
If a cleanroom helps you stay more focused, make a ritual of cleaning your room or your work desk before starting your work. If people motivate you, go to a cafe to place yourself in such an environment & get things rolling.
Build Emotional Stability
Keep your problems that you don’t have any control over at bay. It will resolve itself.
Whenever faced with an obstacle, professional or relationship crisis, ask yourself. “Is the solution to this problem in my control?” If yes, then start focusing on answers instead of problems. The more you focus on problems, you are using more space & energy in your mind to conspire against you.
That is why being positive is not the answer to overcome your thoughts, finding answers, creating opportunities, trying before failing & more importantly taking small action consistently is the answer to build belief.
Create A Ritual
Enjoying the process is the most difficult task. Sometimes we forget that results come from being consistent in taking action. But trying isn’t enough, you need to believe in yourself. Believe in yourself in the now.
I remember when I used to exercise 6-7 years ago, before starting the training session or in fact before studying as well I used to be super motivated. But once I entered the gym looking at the environment around me I used to be intimidated by how people were doing things confidently & I used to then underplay my potential by doubting the whole process. I was so conscious of my actions
Asking myself again & again, am I doing this right, I hope I’m not looking too fat, I hope this exercise is correct, do I need to take protein shakes to lose fat?, do I only need to eat salad?, that guy over there is drinking some different kind of water, I wonder what is it? Should I ask him? No, let it be, he will sell me some dangerous shit. And this was never-ending.
The problem was I was not enjoying the process, only worrying. And when your focus is on problems you end up finding more problems. The solution to this is creating a ritual that enables your mind to prepare itself & focus on the next big task & break that overthinking pattern.
A ritual that will enable you to get your mindset & your thought pattern sorted before you start your major work. The best way to do it is by learning from world-class athletes.
Listen To A Playlist
Listening to music is the most ancient & the most effective way to get your focus back.
Since the discovery of music & sound, it has enhanced our living on this planet. Performing big drum-like instruments before the war during the era of kings in the far east part of the world to motivate the troops to a list of songs that perfectly fits a dream wedding. Music enhances everything.
Likewise, I have a playlist of selected songs which I like to listen to wither during my morning routine or while I’m working. The sheer pleasure of getting the focus back is the best feeling in the world & no better way to do through a good, soothing & inspiring playlist.
Create a playlist that fits your liking & use it to your advantage whenever you feel distracted or feeling low.
Read 10 Pages Of A Book
This is the most effective & easy to implement a tactic that I use daily. Reading to relax helps me focus & more importantly it puts me in a state where my decision-making ability is apt.
Also, because books give perspective. A perspective from a person who is maybe thousands of miles away while I’m at the comfort of reading a book anywhere in the world. By the time I’m done reading 10 pages, my mind is already at ease, I’ve refreshed my thought pattern & now I’m ready to take action again.
Ever realized the law of life? The theory of Evolution? The theory of survival of the fittest? And all the other theories of which the simple meaning is that a person who has the most tolerance towards his self sabotaging mind & it’s thought process, life is simple to go through.
To make it more simple to understand, a man who conquers his mind can conquer his life. Contrary to that more often than not we let our minds control our life. It is like a gun facing towards you & the faster you change positions, the better.
Use patience as a weapon.
Take action today. Choose faith, not fear
