Why Do We Actually Give Excuse To Ourself?

Our human mind is built for survival. More often than not we only do things that make us comfortable, the ones we find easy.

But as soon as something important comes up which is not part of your daily routine & system, we tend to comfort ourselves by doing the things we have been doing it for years & overlook our fears & our important tasks, we start looking for shortcuts & it triggers the endless loop of escapism.

And the worst part is we expect different results by being the same person. This goes on for days first, then weeks & then years & until you realize your reality, now it becomes difficult for you to change yourself to change your situations.

It can be being disciplined in your online business & the work related to it, developing good habits, changing your financial situation, a skill that you want to learn, or as simple as getting the work done what is meant to be done daily.

How To Stop Giving Yourself Excuses

1. Make It Obvious

Make It Obvious, Make It Intentional. You can’t skip or overlook your plans. The cost of regret is not pleasurable.

People are not successful because they are smart. People are successful because they are disciplined at getting the work done.

An artist is not a great artist if he only paints when he is inspired. A writer is not a great writer if he only writes when he is inspired. A businessman is not a successful businessman if he only does sales once in a while. His business will die. Likewise, you can’t be good at something by doing it once in a while.

But the more number of times you repeat the act of getting the work done, the better you get at your craft anyways. So when your behavior pattern is of a warrior who is on the battlefield every single day no matter what to keep the enemies (regret in this case) out of reach, you are bound to come through.

2. Hold Yourself Accountable, Be Tough On Yourself Next Time

Enough is Enough. Rather than life holding you accountable & controlling your situations, you need to control yourself. You need to control your actions. Accountability is the companion of success.

Character building doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. One can only build a strong & reliable character under circumstances that challenge you, make you uncomfortable & push you to cross your creative boundaries.

Because everything you want is on the other side of fear

3. Change Your Environment

Make good habits easier to practice & bad habits difficult. People don’t overeat because they are hungry, people overeat because they are bored. Likewise, for any activity that gives instant gratification & it’s the easiest to do at the moment, it often leads to sacrificing long term gains.

You don’t need the motivation to motivate you to get the work done, it’s too much hard work. You need to place yourself in an environment where you are trying less to keep yourself motivated & trying more to get the work done.

If waking up early is the problem, once the alarm rings immediately start by making your bed. This way you are conditioning your mind for the next task. If eating junk is the problem simply change the placement of junk food/snacks in the house to somewhere you can’t access it or if you are living alone, consider junk food as your enemy and throw it anyways, so you don’t have to face it day in & day out. Make it out of sight.

If you want to build a reading habit, place a book at a place where you spend most of the time-wasting. Usually, it’s your bed. So when you wake up or go back to bed the book is already waiting for you. All you have to do is start reading one page. Every single day.

4. Overcome Resistance

Our emotions are the resistance. We often think that only when we are motivated we’ll be able to do our tasks perfectly. But that doesn’t change how you are as a person. If you are looking for motivation to complete your tasks, it is a way of procrastination. And the resistance grows stronger inside you

So to change your internal behavior, you need to first take action because taking action builds belief. The second step is to avoid the temptation, avoid the resistance.

It’s easy to avoid & not bother. If you want to lose weight, you will crave more if you use your immense will power because you are using your mental toughness. Since it is an emotion to be motivated & emotions fluctuate throughout the day. From one end of the spectrum to the other.

One effective way to overcome resistance is by asking yourself an empowering question.


Let’s say you are trying to lose weight & you have a perfect nutrition plan to follow with 5-6 meals per day. In between meals you experience cravings to eat something sweet. You need to ask yourself whether I’m hungry or just bored? Because I have a perfect nutrition plan which lays out how much calories I need to eat & I’ve completed that quota.

So are you really hungry or are you just bored?

5. Set Deadlines

Setting deadlines is the most basic prerequisite to achieve your goals effectively. Whether you lose or win doesn’t matter, fighting the battle matters the most, facing your fear matters the most. Deadlines also trigger a sense of urgency within us

6. Improvise

There is no one formula to be successful.

When people want to get fit at the start of the year everybody is super excited for the first week but as soon as the end goals get blurry after a few minor setbacks or as the motivation tank drops, people quit. It becomes boring, you lose faith in yourself, you start blaming the environment around you of how it didn’t favor you.

When you feel like quitting, it’s the perfect time to change your approach. It is life’s way of telling you that you are not a robot, you are a human & every human is different. In such a scenario people who figure out a solution rather than an excuse are the ones who make things happen.
